Armijo and Gallagher families papers

Abstract
The Armijo and Gallagher families papers include personal, business and legal documents primarily concerning Nestor Armijo’s involvement in mercantile and ranching interests during the late-1800s in southern New Mexico. The bulk of the papers document how the Armijo family established itself as one of the most well-known mercantile families of territorial New Mexico. A good deal of material pertains to the Armijo home, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The John L. Gay collection (1841-1902) consists primarily of business documents and correspondence concerning Manuel and Rafael Armijo. These papers are particularly valuable in that they throw light on some phases of the Civil War period in New Mexico. The Armijos were merchants with stores in Albuquerque, Mesilla and other places in New Mexico. Abstract
The Isidoro Armijo family collection contains material related to the lives and work of Isidoro Armijo, his wife Jennie Archibald Armijo, their children Ernestine Evermon and Willard, and other family members. The papers are divided into two series--Family Papers and Photographs--and contain family letters, keepsakes, scrapbooks, photographs, and appointment certificates.

The William A. Keleher collection contains a variety of materials pertaining to the history of New Mexico. As a historian, Keleher conducted thorough research on the territorial era of the State. As a prominent lawyer and citizen of the State in the 1900's, Keleher's legal work and volunteer efforts helped shape the modern condition of New Mexico. Many of the documents related to his research, career and other interests are included in this collection.
